As part of its official opening in 2018, The Africa Institute had the pleasure of hosting the ‘Father of Ethiopian jazz’, Mulatu Astatke who performed live at the Africa Hall on Friday, September 28, 2018.

Mulatu led his band while playing vibraphone and conga drums—instruments that he introduced into Ethiopian popular music—as well as other percussion instruments, keyboards, and organs.
