The Africa Institute, Sharjah, is organizing a series of webinars to discuss the effects of COVID-19 on Africa and the steps African nations are taking to tackle the spread of the pandemic. This is the first webinar in the series and focuses the region of East Africa with two leading experts; Dr. Dawit Wondimagegn, who was joining us from Addis Ababa Ethiopia; and also welcome Dr. Muntaser El Tayeb Ibrahim who was joining us from Khartoum, Sudan.

Dr. Dawit is the Chief Executive Director of The College of Health and Sciences, Vice-President of Addis Ababa University, and a specialist in the area of global mental health, family medicine, medical ethics, psychotherapy knowledge translation, and postpartum depression.

Dr. Muntaser El Tayeb Ibrahim is the director of The Institute of Endemic Diseases, Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum in Sudan. He is the founding member of the African Society of Human Genetics, and the Sudanese National Academy of Science. He is a molecular biologist by training and a geneticist as well.

Moderator: Dr. Salah Hassan and, the director of The Africa Institute in Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates. He’s also a professor of African and African Diaspora Art History and Visual Cultures at Cornell University in New York.
