Location: The Africa Institute (TAI), Sharjah, United Arab Emirates

Role Purpose:

Responsible for providing professional support in the area of human resources.

About the Africa Institute:

The AI is a newly established, research-focused graduate studies institute and think tank. The AI aims to serve as a cultural and academic enabler to the study of Africa and its diaspora, in addition to its unique emphasis on Afro-Arab historical relations and linkages. AI will contribute to advancing knowledge production about Africa and its people, their social, cultural, intellectual heritage and contributions to human civilization at large. This will be accomplished through research, teaching, and contribution to the development of related academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. The Institute is working to develop degree programs at the Masters and Ph.D. levels, in relation to Africa and the emerging studies of the global African diaspora, in addition to a special diploma in African languages. Key Responsibilities:

• Handle the HR tasks such as HR database, correspondences, reports, letters, and memos as directed.
• Manage the HRMS software and liaise with the relevant departments for tasks/requests.
• Ensure the correct implementation of the Institute’s HR policies.
• Preparation and administration of HR documentation to include starter packs, background checking, visa applications, health insurance, etc.
• Tracking of probation and temporary staff dates, to remain compliant.
• Provision of reports as requested.
• Filing, scanning, and updating relevant documentation of the Institute employees.
• Facilitate employee engagement initiatives and calendar of events for the company, including team building.
• Serve as the first point of HR contact and support.
• Perform other office administration-related duties as may be assigned.

Required Education:

Bachelor degree in a related field

Required Work Experience:

• 5-7 years of experience in human resources position, preferably in a governmental entity.
• Strong knowledge of labor laws and human resources regulations of Sharjah and UAE.
• Experience in working in a diverse environment is an asset.
