On October 28, 2024, The Africa Institute welcomed 25 guests from the Sharjah Museum Authority (SMA) as part of their SAWA Museum Studies program. This Arab-German initiative aims to inspire innovative museum practices for emerging museum practitioners.
The visit included a tour of the institute, during which Binyam Sisay Mendisu, Associate Dean of The Africa Institute and Professor of African Languages and Linguistics, provided insights into the programs offered at Global Studies University and The Africa Institute. He addressed the guests’ queries, fostering a dialogue about the institute’s role in advancing cultural exchange and education.
Looking ahead, the SAWA Museum Studies program will host the SAWA: A Decade of Cross-Cultural Museum Learning conference at the Sharjah Archaeology Museum from November 4 to 5, 2024. This event will celebrate ten years of impactful museum practices and provide opportunities to learn more about cross-cultural dialogue among global museum professionals.
